MATERA, ITALY & ÉVORA, PORTUGAL – The WARM (WAste Reduction and Management by implementing circular economy in western africa) project is entering a new phase with a series of study visits for its African partners to European universities. This initiative is a crucial step in developing a new master’s degree curriculum focused on waste management and a circular economy.

From September 15-21, three academic staff members from each African Higher Education Institution (HEI) will travel to Matera, Italy, for a visit to the University of Basilicata (UNIBAS). The following week, from September 22-28, the group will continue their visits at the University of Évora (ÉVORA) in Portugal.

The purpose of these study visits is for the African partners to gain firsthand experience of the teaching methods, course structures, and laboratory setups of relevant master’s programs at the European universities.

This activity is a fundamental part of the project’s strategy to transfer knowledge from established EU curricula to the African context. During their time in Europe, the partners will also engage in discussions to exchange ideas, define their vision for the new program, and agree on a broad structure for the curriculum.
